Recycle NZ estimates every year New Zealand sends approximately 15.5 million tonnes of waste to landfill. Of this 252,000 tonnes is plastic and only 28% of this is recycled. Medical waste is a huge contributor to this number due to single-use items. Unfortunately in New Zealand the majority of our clinical waste is sent to landfill with the only other option being incineration.
Having met with other professionals within the dental industry
I discovered that there was a lot of misunderstanding when it came to being green and infection control standards which resulted in a lot of unnecessary waste. This is why I decided to start Green Bee Buzzness – So that I could take everything I have learnt over the last 10 years and use it to help other practices become more sustainable without compromising on infection control.
